posting on tumblr for the first time in forever for a little gilmore girls rant since i’m rewatching it again
lorelai not talking to rory and calling it “tough love” and not telling her about her engagement to luke was one of the more immature and stupid things lorelai has done in the series. she left an emotionally abusive household at 16 and basically she stopped growing emotionally. she never matured past 16 because she had to raise herself (and another human being) after that. she obviously became responsible enough: raising rory, owning a home, a car, running the independence inn, opening the dragonfly, getting her business degree.
even with all those achievements, she is self-centered with mega main-character syndrome. i mean she literally IS a main character xD but still! everything that happens is her business, all the time. rory deciding not to go to yale was disappointing but she became disproportionally upset about it. its very true that people lose their way and take time to decide what they want to do with their lives. rory going to jail was very upsetting but lorelai absolutely should never have shut rory out. with all of that shit that happened to rory, she needed her mother/best friend the most and that’s when she left her. she is her daughter and shutting her out like that was a horribly selfish and immature thing to do. i hate her for that
end rant
im on the episode where richard returns the dollshouse to lorelai and he tells her that he’s wprried about rory wandering around aimlessly and they need to formulate a plan. lorelai gets pissed (rightfully) BUT she says if rory wants help, she’ll ask for it. some people DONT ask for help when they need it. refusing to help someone you care for, knowing they need help is so wrong. she then tells luke about how sad she is that her and rory had all these plans for rory’s 21st birthday and they wont get to do them. JUST TALK TO YOUR DAMN DAUGHTER. i am remembering how much i hated this storyline. u_u
btw you should make sure to spend the infinite cycle of life, death, and rebirth with a bestie. it’s called ouroboros not myoboros

There’s a part in The Princess Bride (the book, it’s not in the movie) where Inigo and Fezzik are looking for Westley after he’s been taken by the Prince, and they’ve been running into obstacle after obstacle, having to overcome them one after the other till they are not only worn out but they find themselves lost in the dark in the Prince’s pit of despair. They overcome and overcome and barely overcome, and then they find Westley.
Dead.
And in the middle of this horrid moment, the passage goes,
“After such effort; after being reunited with Fezzik on this day of days for this one purpose, to find the man to help him revenge his dead Domingo—gone. All was gone. Hope? Gone. Future? Gone. All the driving forces of his life. Gone. Snuffed out. Beaten. Dead.
‘I am Inigo Montoya, the son of Domingo Montoya, and I do not accept it.’”
And he drags Westley’s dead body to Max and stakes everything on a miracle happening. He is literally at the bottom of the pit of Despair with a dead man and instead of succumbing to despair himself he stops and says “I do not accept it.”
And that is one of the most powerful moments in any story I’ve read. Because sometimes the bravest and hardest thing is to insist on hope when it seems like there is none. To say no. I do not accept it. And look for a miracle if that’s what it takes!
(To against hope believe in hope, that we might obtain what was promised.)
